BSG vid: Pocketful of Consequence (Starbuck and her Special Destiny) - Just Because
meanderings of a deranged mind
BSG vid: Pocketful of Consequence (Starbuck and her Special Destiny)
Song: Weight of the World
Artist: Spygirl
Focus: Kara Thrace
Spoilers: All of it, baybee!
File size and type: 21.3 mb avi
Notes: A while back, my RL BFF, illust8r, threw an idea at me for a vid. It wasn't the first time, but it is the first time it struck me and took hold so that I finally finished it. I gave her a sneak preview on her birthday, about a month ago, but now, according to the awesome jebbypal, it's done. Thank you for the quick beta, my friend -- I know you would have called me on it if there was anything in here that was just filler. :P

Excellent! You covered a wide variety of events in Kara's life with different people and it created a mood with the music that really showed her struggles. I've watched it a few times now and it gets better each time.

Thank you, Latte! That's pretty much the best kind of feedback a girl can get. *squish*

Awesome! One thing I really love is the cut from her shooting the glass case with the Arrow of Apollo to pointing the gun at Roslin. And the whole black and white sequence starting at 1:21 is really nicely edited. The various Viper clips on "history repeats itself" are also really cool.

Good job! (and poor Destiny Kara!)

Thank you! Hee! The switch from Kara shooting the case to slamming the gun down on Roslin's desk is one that worked out really well, imho, so I'm glad it worked for you, too. :D

You finished it and it's wonderful. *twirls you*
Like I've said before, I'm not a vidder so I can't comment on technical stuff but I know what I like and when a video looks like it's been made by professional. Very moving and so true . *holds Kara tight*

Excellent job, SBabe.

Very nice! :D

Such great motion in this--I loved the choices of internal motion you made for the beginning and ends of your clip. It all fit together wonderfully and kept the emotion of the entire vid really tight for me.

The sequence with the two viper crashes was also a standout section for me. :) I sort of wished the song didn't have to go quiet during the crescendo for the voice-over at the end, but I understood why you wanted that sentiment in there.

It's a really lovely vid--you did a wonderful job of tying her different experiences through the seasons together. :}

Thank you so much!

I think I'm finally becoming comfortable enough with vidding to do things like play with motion and color, etc. I was kind of worried about the voiceover, but yeah. I really wanted it in there, given the tone of the vid and I couldn't do it without taking down the level of the music. I just couldn't figure out how to strip the BSG music out of the voiceover, because I think that was part of the problem with being able to hear the words clearly.

Anyway, thank you again for the comments. :D

I remember loving the beginning of this but wow, it came out brilliantly! The repetitions of "consequence" were particularly effective - destiny is just not kind to poor Kara, huh? I also liked the cut from Kara shooting the glass to pointing the gun at Roslin and the "history repeats" pairing of the two viper crashes. I like the way you intercut to show the patterns of her fate. (Also, she should just stop flying patrols with Hotdog. :P)

Excellent work!

Dude! You're like, the ONLY person who caught that it was with Hotdog, both times! *twirls you*

And thank you! :D

Wow, this is really great!

I was floored by the way you pointed out that Hotdog was there both times in the "history repeats itself" section. That actually gave me chills. Something so small like that, but it's still part of the repetition, tied up with the repetition of history which is one of my favourite BSG themes, I dunno. It just really got to me even though it was probably a coincidence on the part of the writers.

The start of the song with the lines about the world breathing a sigh of disbelief at what's become so apparent: I took that as Kara's total nutsness becoming apparent, and I kind of like how the vid takes that attitude - confronts the way Kara totally loses it in S4 - and then starts filling in the backstory later in the song. It kind of drove home to me how unlike the Kara from season one the Kara from season four is; how little I would have expected this and yet how we get there is awesome.

So thanks.

As someone else mentioned, I think it's kind of a shame that we have the VO during the crescendo of the song, but I can also see why you wanted that line in there. It is pretty much my favourite line from BSG ever, so I'm not complaining much. ;)

How did I miss this vid earlier?!!?
Love the timing throughout the vid and the colour changes between 'present' and 'past' worked realy well. Kara really does have quite a burden to cope with and you really highlighted how it has affected her life.
